Looking forward to 2022

So many things have changed in animal sheltering since the outbreak of  Covid. We used to have dogs that linger in our shelters for months and even years, and now dogs come in and find homes almost immediately.

I am excited that we can help dogs from areas not as lucky as we are, areas that have to euthanize simply for space. They need our help! The League is now able to save healthy, adoptable dogs and cats from being euthanized. These high kill shelters do not have the space for them, but we do. I have gotten to know the women running these shelters, making these awful decisions, and it's heartbreaking. I can't imagine making those decisions myself (I have a hard time approving euthanasia for a sick animal ).

The League has been fortunate to have a great community that adopts, donates, volunteers, shares, and fosters. I am so proud of our organization. Our staff, board, volunteers, and community go above and beyond! We can save so many lives by taking animals from these shelters who desperately need our help!

This weekend is by far the most gratifying!

We are now able to use kennels in the newly renovated Aquebogue shelter. Thanks to so many adoptions, we also have space in the Southold shelter, which makes it possible for the League to take in almost 40 animals from these high kill shelters this weekend. This is a record intake number of animals of all ages, sizes, and breeds coming to The League!

I am overwhelmed with happiness that we can do this. My hope is everyone comes out to foster, adopt, share, donate and visit!!!

A huge thank you to everyone who supports the League !!!

Look for many #happylifenfawl photos to come!!!!
