All 20 Dogs Rescued At Hoarder House Find Homes On North Fork

The Chiweenies were a hit at the North Fork Animal Welfare League — but more help is needed as a new transport of pups needing home arrives.

PECONIC, NY — A pile of puppies rescued from a hoarder home found forever families this weekend in Peconic.

Last week, Gabrielle Stroup, director of operations at the North Fork Animal Welfare League, said the shelter would be filled to the rafters Saturday as a total of 36 rescue dogs arrived.

Stroup said a a partner shelter in Georgia that was already full and euthanizing dogs for space had to handle a hoarding case and ended up with 20 Chiweenies.

"We could not say no to helping out. So these dogs and 16 others, from another shelter in Georgia, will be heading to the North Fork," she said.

But by Tuesday, all the dogs, some of which were pregnant, had been adopted, she said.

Stroup said she wanted to thank "everyone who showed up this weekend and made it so we could save these dogs and now have room to save more."

She also thanked Patch for getting the word out with a post about the pups' plight.

But new dogs are coming early next week and will need forever homes and families, Stroup said.
